In this seminar, we shall explore the world of Charles Dickens. We will travel into the world Dickens imagined in his fictions, and we will reconstruct the Victorian London in which he lived. We will ask not only �who was Charles Dickens?� but also �who read these books and why?� Some of the Dickens novels that we will read include Oliver Twist, Bleak House, and A Tale of Two Cities. The class will require several short papers and a final research paper. Lively class participation is expected.
